Nio sold three cars in the Netherlands during January 2026. The year before? Fourteen.
The Dutch government stopped tax exemptions for zero-emission vehicles and raised bijtelling rates for leased EVs. All three sales were ES8 SUVs, starting at €78,900 with battery subscription included.
The whole Dutch EV market dropped 35.4% at the same time. Hybrids grabbed 61% of new purchases. The electric models people bought? Priced between €30,000 and €40,000.
Nio runs eight battery swap stations in the Netherlands, 61 across Europe. European dealers have NT 2.0 platform vehicles from 2023-2024 sitting on lots. Meanwhile, the Chinese market moved to third-generation tech.
December 2025 was different. Nio sold 85 units, the best month since entering the Netherlands in late 2022.
The company still offers battery subscriptions for buyers who’d rather split the cost.
